Razor Magazine - July/August 2002

It's all in her eyes. The windows to her soul. The pools of radiance that when fully open reveal her most hidden secrets. I stare intro Kari Wuhrer's eyes and at once I am drawn into a world unlike any I have ever experienced. A colorful world, at times alive and wonderous, passionate and honest, delicate without any hint of frailty, I am engulfed in a light of such intensity that one can only wonder how long it can burn before it must finally exhaust itself.

Kari Samantha Wuhrer is a dynamic force of nature, and like Mother Earth herself, is both unforgiving and relentless while at all times compassionate and loving. Her relationships know no bounds and her creative talents drive her to horizons most of us have barely imagined.

Currently starring in the Ellory Elkayem directed Eight Legged Freaks! (produced by the team of Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich of Godzilla fame), along with David Arquette and Doug E. Doug, Kari brings experience gained by appearances in over 37 feature films, 28 television shows, and two video games. She has released a CD of her own music, Shiny, and is now entering a new phase of her career whish will include live theatre.

"I think I'm good enough. I want to do the work that's going to cross me over to that other place. I don't just mean my talent or my skill as an actor. I mean the work that it takes to build relationships with the people who are putting together great films; the studio relationships, and so on."

Kari has her team in place and with dedicated spirit and unleashed vigor, she plans on giving her career the best of her abilities.

"I think that when you get into a certain groove you tend to stay there and soon other people regard you that way.   I just want to get out of the groove - and if that means a train wreck, then let it be. Or if it means that I starve for a little while in order to make things happen, then so be it. All of it is very, very frightening. I'm not a kid anymore, so I want to create something that reveals who I truly am now."

I stare at her hands and watch with great pleasure the control she exerts over every move. Her fingers dance in poetic grace along the ridge of her cup as we sit in the shade of a giant umbrella at a streetside cafe. I follow each finger as it traces a circle in a puddle of cream on the tabletop. Circles that have until now become a symbol of Kari's career.

Around and around in an endless cycle of sci-fi movies and television guest appearances. The fingers slow and finally stop. Then with a quick flick of her wrist the circle is broken and cream is splashed about the table. Again, just like her career, Kari is breaking out and up into territory that may be unknown but certainly territory she has the ingenuity to make her own.
