She acts, she sings, she drinks, she looks like your wildest fantasy. Gentleman and gentleman, put your hands together for the star of '94/95 - Kari Wuhrer

Kari's acting caper started in New York aged 17, where she became an MTV VJ,   hosting the popular quiz show Remote Control.   Since then it's been one big jamboree of acting assignments including Beverly Hills 90210.

Films coming out later this year included Boulevard (with Lou Diamond Philips),   Sensation   (with Eric 'have you met my sister' Roberts) and her big break - playing Jack Nicholson's stripper girlfriend in the Sean Penn directed erotic thriller type-thing, Crossing Guard.

"Doing those strip scenes was very empowering" says Kari. "Me and Sean went and hung around loads of strip joints in LA to get the feel of it.  When you're performing like that, you feel like you've got a lot of power over men which can be dangerous if you're young because you don't really know what that power is all about. But I'm 27 so I used the power in a more prolific and exciting way. It was werid because I felt really sexy as Kari going home at the end of the day."

So what was Big Jack like then?

"The very first scene I had to do with Jack, I was in his bed totally naked. I couldn't believe it but I wasn't intimitated. He has this way of making you relax."

Yeah I bet he does.

"No really, he was my mentor. Nobody in the world can steal a scene from Jack Nicholson but I at least wanted to be comparable and he made me realize that the less you think about it the better you are. Sean was brilliant. He's going to be the next huge director of his generation. He's very spiritual, you know."

Besides the stripper role, Kari has played call girls and abused girlfriends. Is she always drawn to such intense characters?

"On the one hand, I have all these moral family values to tie me into reality but I'm this Taurus creative person and I find it hard to stay in that one place so as an actress I can live out all those fantasies and get a bit naughty...it's a good excuse, you know."

So what do you get up to when you're not acting alongside legends?

"I often stop by The Snake Pit bar for a pint and I go to The Room (bar) a lot where Drew Barrymore hangs out. She's a little Bohemian whore I tell ya, I love her though!"

"I write a lot of songs in my studio at home and I sing, too. I love alternative female vocalist bands like The Sundays and Mazzy Star and my absolute favorite is Cat Stevens."

What, that bearded ex-pop star English bloke who wrote Matthew & Son in which he only had a lousy five minute break for a cup of cold coffee and a slice of cake before turning into a Muslim?

"Yeah, that's him. I like English men a lot, actually, I used to date them all the time before meeting my fiancee (some intense musician drummer fella, apparently) and I've got lots of English friends here. There's a lot of pent-up energy in England. One day I'd like to buy a castle there. I like the sarcasm of the English and the insanity and the uncircumcised penis."
